The Scanning Probe technology allows imaging of smallest structures
down to the nanometer scale. With this technology it is even possible
to see individual atoms.
Difference to classical microscopy
In difference to classical microscopy, it is not the wave character of
matter, that is used to visualise small structures.
Instead, the surface is scanned by means of a tiny tip and the interaction
of tip and surface is recorded.
