Nano-World: The Virtual Nanoscience Laboratory
Within the framework of the federal program Swiss Virtual Campus, an interdisciplinary team is developing a virtual laboratory for students of natural sciences and pharmacy. Nano-World is a collaboration of the institutes of physics, informatics and psychology of the university of Basle, as well as of departments of the universities of Bern and Fribourg and the technical school of Basle.
In the virtual laboratory experiments from the recent field of Nanoscience are simulated. For their work within the problem-based learning environment the students get credits according to the European Credit Point System.
As a prototype, a virtual Friction Force Microscope (FFM) has been developed. The prototype will be used to verify the technical concepts. A single-user version does already exist.
